History

In Fall 2007, the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was established based on the crucial demand of national development plan "Two Trillions and Twin Stars". In association with the High-Tech industries in the five northern science parks (Hsin-Tien, Chung-Ho, Tu-Cheng, Tao-Yuan, and Hsin-Chu), skillful and professional engineers/researchers are incubated to meet the demands by the industry in this college. The college provides three study/research programs: The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, and the Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering were founded in 2004, both were the first high-tech departments in National Taipei University in which business, law, social sciences and liberal arts play the dominant roles. Thereafter, the Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering was established in 2006 as well.

 

Mission

The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science enriches society and advances science and engineering in four crucial ways: produce highly qualified, well- trained, and motivated graduates possessing fundamental knowledge of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science who can provide leadership and service to the Nation, and the World; pursue creative research and new technologies in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and across disciplines in order to serve the needs of industry, government, society, and the scientific community by expanding the body of knowledge in the field; develop partnerships with industrial and government agencies and publish enduring scientific articles and books.

As a national university located at the Capital, we will grow to be the nationally preeminent university program in our strategic areas of excellence, such as Information Theory, IC Design, Multimedia, Networks and Virtual Reality. Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering is the first high-tech department in Taipei University in which business & law and liberal arts together play a dominant role. In addition to the rich training proffered by its professional courses, the Department provides an education in both liberal arts and business & law, a point that is usually weak in a college focusing on science and technology. The professional training of the Department emphasizes the combination of information theory and practice. We enable our students to receive State-of-art science and technology information, developing themselves into talented experts mastering both theory and practice, while integrating liberal arts and science & technology through various academic exchanges and industrial communication activities. Our curricula are classified into the following three categories: mathematical theory, major based topics, and their applications. With respect to mathematical theory, we focus on an education in background mathematics and physics that serves as the basis for entering into advanced research. The major based topics category consist of the core subjects of the Department, including foundation courses related to the electronics and information. Finally, all of the application courses deal with the recent developments in the IT industry exploring the latest technologies to make our students well-prepared when entering the job market and research institutes.

 

The Department will furthermore set up several research labs including an electronics & electro-circuit lab, a digital and micro-computer lab, a network lab, as well as a multi-media and image, mobile computing, communication network, and distribution system, and system chip facilities. As a brand-new department, all of our equipment is of course up-to-date. The electronics, information, and communication industries are among the high-tech industries with the most potential. In addition to this, our graduates can find places in the semi-conductor industry, IC design industry, information software & hardware industry, and communication industry. In other words, our graduates will have more job opportunities to become a VIP in IT field.

Department of Communication Engineering

The Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering was established by our university in order to coordinate national policy, promote communication technology capacity, and to produce advanced technical personnel needed by industry. It is the first high-tech graduate institute in Taipei University in which business & law and liberal arts play a dominant role. In addition to the strong training offered by its professional courses, the Department also provides an education in business & law and liberal arts, something that is usually lacking in a college concentrating on science and technology. This is done so as to cultivate talented high-tech experts with a foundation in both liberal arts and management. The institute is oriented toward the development of communication system design, communication chip design, networking, mobile computing, digital signal processing, and multi-media communication. As far as our laboratories are concerned, the institute currently has a communication & network chip lab, a digital signal processing and application lab, a wireless communication lab, and a computer communication network lab, for student teaching and experimentation. Our faculty, in addition to the faculty approved by the Ministry of Communication, has members from Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. In the future, we will have in total over 20 professors with Ph.D. degrees who will instruct our students to be experts in the communication industry. The institute emphasizes training and the exercising of independent thinking and innovative design competence. We will invite scholars and experts to give lectures on a regular basis, and actively compete for cooperation with industry. We also ask our students to participate in the research projects of their advisors and to take part in the various cooperative activities between industry and academic, encouraging them as well to take part in various competitions organized by the institute to demonstrate what they have learned and to help them obtain critical experience.

 

Department of Electrical Engineering

The Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering was established in Fall 2006 based on the crucial demand of national development plan "Two Trillions and Twin Stars". In association with the High-Tech industries in the five northern science parks (Hsin-Tien, Chung-Ho, Tu-Cheng, Tao-Yuan, and Hsin-Chu), skillful and professional engineers/researchers are incubated to meet the demands by the industry in this institute. The graduate institute provides interdisciplinary research programs, such as System Chip Design (Digital, Analog, and RF), Electronic Design Automation (EDA), Multicore Computer Systems, Information and Communication Security Systems, Virtual Reality and Simulation, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Geometry Information System (GIS). In the near future, this institute will have more than 20 professors (Ph. D) in the related fields.

Creativity, innovation, and training of multidisciplinary engineering are emphasized and developed in this institute. Meanwhile, students are encouraged to join the research projects for obtaining valuable research experience. Furthermore, to combine the theory and applications all students in this institute will be appointed to an internship in CIC (Center of Integrated Circuits) or high-tech corporations. Thus, all students will be educated and trained to be well-qualified electrical engineers to meet the current and future needs of the global electronic industry.
