The College of Business at NTPU is founded on the excellent traditions developed by the previous faculties of National Chung Hsing University College of Law and Business. It boasts a highly knowledgeable faculty and research staff as well as countless esteemed alumni.

In 2000, the Center for Cooperative Economics and Non-Profit Organizations was set up complementing the existing departments as well as extending NTPU’s desire for holistic approaches to education. This was followed by the founding of the Graduate Institute for Information Management in 2001.

The College is currently in the process of improving its academic environment for researchers, enhancing intercollegiate and international exchanges as well as the development of faculties dedicated to a wide range of business fields including Asia-Pacific small businesses, marketing strategies, strategic human resources, international enterprise, finance and statistical consulting.

Department of Business Administration

The department focuses primarily on training managers for public and private enterprises. It places significant emphasis on teaching and research of small-business administration and international management. The students are also required to take foreign language and computer software courses to adapt better to the current working environment experienced in Taiwan.

The department has also successfully collaborated with external enterprises and has conducted on-the-job continuing education. It currently offers the following degrees and courses in business: undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs in Business Administration, an Executive MBA program, extension classes for managers in small business, CEO classes and management consultant training classes.

 Department of Finance and Cooperative Management

The study of cooperative and international finance and marketing of businesses and non-profit organizations is the focal point of the Department of Banking and Cooperative Management. Its curriculum covers a wide range of subjects to bolster domestic cooperative businesses and nonprofit organizations and to further international business participation in Taiwan through the principles of free trade and globalization. Its pedagogical goal is to nurture and produce more specialists in these areas.

Department of Accountancy

The educational mission of the Department of Accounting is to train highly skilled and competent accountants, who can apply themselves in private businesses, academic institutions, and government agencies in a modern society. This is achieved by exposing students to fundamental accounting theories, hosting related seminars, conducted by renowned experts, as well as providing students with a strong and capable faculty.

Department of Statistics

Statistical data and its analysis are essential in both private and public sectors. With this in mind, the Department of Statistics trains its students to meet this demand by equipping them with ample knowledge and practical exposure to mathematical theories, business-related courses including managerial administration, finance, commercial statistics, and information technology. The department also manages several statistical laboratories, which render services for statistics-oriented matters.

Department of Leisure and Sports Management

As Taiwan’s economy transitions from one of developing to developed status, so too has the country’s recreational habits. Consequently, it has become more important for the government to make certain that people spend their free time safely and enjoyably in order to maintain a healthy workforce and improve living quality. The need for individuals with sufficient knowledge and skills in leisure and recreation activities has prompted the development of the Department of Recreational Sport Management.

Graduate Institute of Information Management

The education goals of the Graduate Institute of Information Management are to:

1. Advance the information system management ability of its graduates;

2. Develop their internet marketing proficiency;

3. Improve their ability to do relevant research.

The Institute attains these goals by instructing its students with key foundational knowledge in areas such as developing and managing information systems, computer science fundamentals, and internet market online behavior, and by requiring them to further research in these areas.

Electronic Business Research Center (EBRC)

The Electronic Business Research Center (EBRC) mainly supports curriculum planning, research, internship projects, and educational activities related to e-business. Moreover, it regularly gives updates on the progress of its research endeavors, facilitates cooperation with industry, and develops programs focused on e-business training.

Center for Cooperative Economics & Non-Profit Oranizations (CCENB)

Opened in February 2000, the Center for Cooperative Economics and Non-Profit Organizations is the only research unit among local educational institutions that integrates the teaching resources from all the colleges of the University.

Graduate Institute of International Business

The five-point purpose of the Graduate Institute of International Business is as follows:

1) Promote globalization of domestic enterprises ;

2) Cultivate business management talents for multinational enterprises at home or abroad;

3) Assist domestic enterprises in dealing with the changes in commercial environments resulting from global market liberalization and the admission of Taiwan into the World Trade Organization (WTO);

4) Help Taiwan develop the capability to adapt to increased Asian regional integration and the formation of the new economic order; and

5) Aid Taiwan in preparing the requisites as an Asia-Pacific Operation Center, including the cultivation of human resources and the integration of regulations for the business environment.

The first two points are aimed at cultivating professionals and are based on the following objectives:

To plan international strategies for enterprises;

To implement the integration of international business resources;

To expand the international market for these enterprises;

To effectively manage the organization of these multinational enterprises;

And to deal with the changes in international financial markets, thus enabling the enterprises to make optimal decisions on investments, financing, and asset management.

The third, fourth, and fifth points are directed towards cultivating policy-making professionals who will, eventually, hold responsibilities in the Asia-Pacific Financial Center. The way to achieve this is grounded on the following objectives:

To develop familiarity with international laws and regulations and the regional economy;

To form a deep and informed understanding of international affairs;

To link local industrial policy with economic policies prevailing in the international market;

To promote the plan of making Taiwan an Asia-Pacific Operation Financial Center.

The Graduate Institute works to encourage managers and experts in international business, international industrial competition, international finance, and international marketing management. This is done by strategically combining theoretical instruction, academic research, and practical application endeavors.

IEMBA

The Executive Master of Business Administration in Finance (IEMBA) was set up in 2003 to solicit outstanding people in the world of business. We promote the interaction between work experience and international academic research, and educate professional managers with international sights in the financial field.

To match the development of each professional in their chose field, we plan our programs along the following four aspects:

To focus on improving the investment and financial management of enterprises. We train financial professionals and strengthen the science of managers understanding of capital investment and practical application. We hope that increasing the financial resources of companies and promoting the financial structure of organizations will lead to healthier business.

To help our country promote financial science and technology and encourage the growth of superior financial engineering professionals. To accumulate and spread the understanding of international finance and cultivate professional managers who have international viewpoints and are forward thinking as well as being confident in dealing with investment, financial management and derivatives.

To focus on the management and application of securities, we provide an environment for learning theory and practical application. We also combine ourselves with related departments such as business management, law, accounting and so on in designing and applying financial instruments including stocks, bonds, futures and options. In this way the IEMBA course can adapt these business practices to a range of industries and markets.

To develop professionals for financial institutions and insurance management, we prepare management courses with an international viewpoint to maintain our competitiveness in finance and insurance market after Taiwan’s joining of the WTO.

Global Master of Business Administration in Finance

The newest established program, Global Master of Business Administration (GMBA) with a concentration in finance, at the College of Business, National Taipei University, will open its door to international students starting from fall, 2013. This innovative, completely English-taught program will accept only international students who will share their learning experience and interact with local students. The purpose of this program is to become the world-class incubation center of future financial leaders, equipping them with global view with Asian perspective.
